Job Description
 
  • Administers corrosion control program for assigned divisions and regions in the company; accountable for related activities including design, installation, operation, and maintenance of all corrosion control facilities for maximum integrity, efficiency, and safety for all assets. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures required by state and federal pipeline safety regulations.
  • Supervises and administers company corrosion control program in order to achieve goals within budgeted funds and available personnel and contractors; reviews projects and designates accountability for assignments. Reviews job scopes and schedules to assure work is completed in an efficient and timely manner. Participates in the selection/promotion of corrosion staff.
  • Helps with performance evaluations and resolves conflicts with operating divisions. Provides training and motivation to make full use of individual capabilities to meet changing system demands. Orients new employees as to procedures, policies, location and operation of equipment, or assigns such orientation to appropriate personnel.
  • Annually reviews all company O&M, Construction, and Engineering Standards for required revisions to enhance operational and compliance efficiencies. Reviews and prepares Best Practice Policies for field technician utilization.
  • Help to develop figures for capital and maintenance budgets based on resource requirements, funding, cost estimates, objectives, and goals
  • Designs corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems including specifications and calculations to include statistical analysis and evaluation of survey data. Confers with divisions responsible for operations, contracts, environmental compliance, construction, and ROW procurement.
  • Prepares contract bid invitations including drawings, specifications, and job scopes when outside contractors are to be used.
  • Consults Managers and Operating Divisions on major projects, budget proposals, and priorities.
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationship with local, regional, and national NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) organizations.
  • Represents corrosion department at inter-company Manager Meetings.
  • Maintains master database of required records for corrosion control/compliance. Reviews as-built drawings and annual survey data. Analyzes field test data from annual and interim surveys and determines best corrective actions.
  • Investigates corrosion problems in the field through survey work and/or research, and may coordinate some activities with other corrosion personnel and/or vendors when necessary.
  • Resolves cathodic protection and interference problems involving measures to be taken, as well as any system adjustments. Implements corrective actions through corrosion and maintenance personnel.
  • Job includes direct involvement from start to finish on all pipeline integrity projects (ILI, CIS, PCM, ECDA / ICDA). Duties include data interpretation, anomaly investigation, remediation / repair, and action / closure plans.
  • Manage major capital and expense projects to include consultants and contractors
  • Supporting the capital budgeting, forecasting, and long range planning efforts.
  • Providing corrosion protection engineering support and guidance for variety of regulatory and stakeholder issues including representing the company at meetings with partners, industry forums and government bodies.
  • Provide support/testimony before various local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
 
Education
 
  • Bachelors degree or higher in engineering, science, or related field from a credited school, or relevant work experience that has developed equivalent engineering skills.
 
 
Experience
 
  • 15 years minimum relevant industry experience
 
 
Working Conditions
 
  • Approximately 50% of the work may be performed in an office environment. The balance of the work may involve negotiating rough terrain, mountainous or desert regions, or urban conditions. Work performed outside may be in varying and sometimes extreme weather situations.
  • Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities.
  • Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment, negotiating rough terrain, and working in confined spaces.
  • May require driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle up to several hours per day. Must be able to drive pipeline right-of-way without accident or equipment damage.
  • Extensive travel may be required including overnight stays for several days.
  • Travel to remote areas within a particular region may involve extended periods of driving, both on and off road, and could involve exposure to electrical shock, difficult terrain, traffic hazards, and different types of animals, insects, and snakes.
  • Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state, or federal agencies and/or Company Policies.
  • Position subject to 24-hour call-out, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
 
Qualifications
 
  • NACE International "Corrosion Technologist" certification is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient with computer software including MS Office, Mapping software, and American Innovation’s PCS (CPDM).
  • Safe work practice and active participation in the safety program.
  • Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work independently.
  • Ability to successfully work in team environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must have legal authority to work in the United States
  • Exercise skill in the monitoring, maintenance, and repair of cathodic protection facilities.
  • Analyze and evaluate operations; develop and implement corrective action to resolve problems.
  • Technical course for troubleshooting rectifiers.
  • R-Streng software experience for evaluating pipeline remaining strength.
  • Pipeline integrity experience with ILI, CIS, DCVG, PCM, and ECDA.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Must be self motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.
  • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, consultants, and representatives of various local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone to be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
